'Why are you so sad, my friend?' the pigeon asked him.

Il était une fois un pauvre fermier qui vivait à l’orée d’une grande forêt avec sa femme et ses enfants. Le garçon s’appelait Femi et la fille Simi. La femme était leur belle-mère car leur propre mère était morte plusieurs années auparavant. Ils étaient très pauvres et avaient tout juste assez à manger; mais une année, quand la famine s’abattit sur le pays, le fermier n’eut bientôt plus rien pour nourrir sa famille.

Abdoulaye and the wonderful lamp

In one of the large and rich cities of Mali there once lived a tailor named Mustapha. He was very poor. He could hardly, by his daily hard work , maintain himself and his family, which consisted only of his wife and a son.

His son, who was called Abdoulayé ,was a very careless and idle fellow. He was disobedient to his father and mother, and would go out early in the morning and stay out all day, playing in the streets and public places with idle children of his own age.

Usman et le Leopard

La route d'Usman un voyageur lui a pris à travers une forêt. Comme il arrivait près d'un village qui était le long du chemin il a trouvé un léopard pris au piège dans une cage en acier. La cage était un piège avait été fixé par les personnes vivant dans un village voisin, et la cage avait été construit de telle manière qu'une fois un animal entré, il serait incapable de sortir à nouveau moins que la cage a été ouverte de l'extérieur.
